History

The Center for Teacher Education at Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology was founded in 2003. Originally, in July 2000, the Center was named the “Center for Education Programs.” The function of the Center is to provide pre-service training to prospective elementary and secondary school teachers. There are two main programs: the Secondary School Teacher Program and the Elementary School Teacher Program. Every year the Center enrolls 29 undergraduate and graduate students to the first program and 36 to the second program. One of the key objectives of the first program is to prepare English teachers to teach in junior, senior, and vocational high schools.The Center furthermore offers credit-bearing courses to elementary school teachers who hope to qualify as English teachers and teach in elementary schools.
